If you honestly believe your interpretation of the law will be accepted by a judge, go to court and present your case. Unless you are just trying to trip up the officer to make a video, you are completely wasting your time. I appreciate and empathize with your efforts - I have been self employed for most of my life. The tax system sucks. The laws regarding state, federal, national, land/forests suck. But businesses conducting "legal" business pay exhorbitant fees to do so. Don’t be an ass.
I respect your desire to be free and live your life. I want to live minimaly myself. There may be better alternatives for you. Or….you continue what you are doing, bucking the system hanging out in the middle of society. Power on friend.
No , officer. You cant take his stuff. You’re an agent of the state and would be using coercion. There are some laws that are just stupid so , no. I don’t care what the law says. Maybe a bad attitude , but that’s how I feel.
This officer has unbelievable patience. This guy is obviously selling these gems. In the first few minutes of the video he says "made a few good sales…" Got nothing against their lifestyle, just stating my opinion. Cop was in the right. You’re not providing any service, just peddling jewellery. You want to be a street performer, than learn to play an instrument.
Seriously, how much is a city permit? Yeah, thats what I thought.
Hi, In a couple of months Im going to move out in a tent just like you. Do you know if there are any established organisations that want to promote homelessness/stealth camping? Im considering to get myself a large provocative 4 man military tent just to diviate from the "gypsy must be hidden away"-policy that permeates our culture. We really could need some organisation that fights for making homelessness attractive. I know a few lawyers who may or may not be interested giving a little
Love it man…….:)
Quote -"did very well in sales." You mean donations don’t you?
very original ! fresh
this guy is an idiot, get a propper job you waste of space, we all can see your selling so stop being an idiot, people enjoy the music wether they give or not. your "art" has to be paid for stop splitting hairs. you may not want to do a days ral work and pay taxs but the rest of us do, those taxs pay the cop whos time your wasting
1 person doesn’t know the first thing about protecting their rights. Or they just like hating things that are cool.
as the public is.
This guy is the greatest, funny too, he’s the Tom Green of camping
@cdltpx Um, I don’t think you really got the point of this video. I DON’T NEED A LICENSE! My scooter is under 35cc, making it legally a "personal mobility device"; the same as a powered wheelchair. Would you ask someone in a wheelchair to wear a helmet or get insurance? As for the sidewalk vending license, I DON’T NEED THAT EITHER. My right to "sell" my art is protected by the first amendment, as it is a form of expression, and therefore speech.
I commend you on your patience…so do tell what happened with the next encounter with the police? "Make the journey worthy of the destination"…Laurie
free advices. Just let me know. I know a lawyer in NewYork who is also a professional pianist like myself. He would sure sympathize a lot with us. Btw, do you have experience with bicycles or cargo trikes carriyng your gear? Im gonna have at least 40 pounds. And do you have any idea how to eventually store anything securely?
Ah lads i have been following you’s on youtube the past few months now and i have to say your doing a great job with the urban camping, Just wish those cops would leave ya alone, You should have played the tape back to the cop and showed him you were right and that he was wrong, But id say he would have arresting you, Any ways stay safe, Peace From Ireland
Artopium Mike
Great Job. I grew up in Portland and stealth camped all over the city. Oaks Bottoms was always a great place to camp. Love the wire wrapped stones.
The owner of the business (5:58 the one who called the police) obviously did not want some dirty hippie in front of their establishment. For all we know the stealthcamper was set up in front of a Jewelry store. Point is the legit business owner has worked hard and went through the proper steps of owning a business and they have the right to "move you along".
You are an idiot. A complete idiot. Keep it up. You will end up in jail. You think you can twist words. You aren’t that smart. Honestly. You are not. That was a friendly cop. You’re luck will run out. Change your attitude and your behavior. Or not. Maybe you won’t be happy until you are in jail.
This cop rocks too
