i absolutely enjoyed this video(even though this system would not be practical for my situation), but the presentation, coupled with the nice people in it, made me want to watch it again….great job, sir!!!….and tight lines…….

I am originally from England and had a 40ft Diawa pole but for the life of me can’t remember the rest of the name, but that is irrelevant. Can you tell me where you got the pole and a price? I would love another.

Lol people think this is a joke in the comment section? This is probably the most populair way to fish in europe. I think its more challenging then just throwing a bait out and reeling it in, you need more practice and knowledge to catch fish like this.

  27. Simon Clark on June 22, 2020 at 7:31 pm

hi a real good video i fish the pole a lot over here in England for roach, rudd ,dace, perch, silver and common bream and all species of pole if ever your here in England on vacation look me up i will show you a great days fishing .
one thing i would like to make you aware of is whats called a pole sock you think what the hell but the best way to describe it is a mini style landing net that attaches to the back of your seat box legs and as soon as you role your pole back and take off that top 2 section the you just plaice the end of pole in whilst you unhook a fish or even change your rig and the pole sock isnt very expensive but the best thing is it keeps your pole damage free.
. Here are a few websites here in the uk that do pole socks and other interesting tackle

    Happy fishing.

I couldn’t tell if this was a comedy or not but I know the perfect situation for this pole and could use it!
In the back side of a damn where I fish are a lot of crappie but if you fish from the shore then the current will always wash your quark to the shore

I have one of these poles. It was my fathers

  38. C moore on June 22, 2020 at 7:42 pm

I saw a fishing show years ago that they used the european rod. I believe it was jimmy houston. Back then, he and roland martin both lived in oklahoma so it was probably one of them. I love fishing for crappie and blue gills but somehow the long rod turns it into something that is more serious than I want it to be. I remember 60 years ago using a cane pole. That was probably as simple as fishing can get. If I could come across a decent pole for cheap, i might try it.

  39. AG Coarseman on June 22, 2020 at 7:43 pm

Pretty alien for the Americans I guess, but quite a normal sight on the banks all across EU.
By the way 40 ft is by far not the longest, in GB 52 ft is considered a norm, no big deal.
There is no method on Earth that can beat long pole on precision, accuracy and control, pretty taxing on your back though…

  40. Matt Troutman on June 22, 2020 at 7:43 pm

You can do the same thing; putting the bait right on the fish, with a 6′ – 7′ soft action spinning rod with an ultra light reel and 2# line, a tiny #16 fine wire hook, a little float, and a maggot. Then when you actually hook a fish you can play the fish off of the reel and enjoy the struggle.  I can see a use for Tenkara rods in small trout streams where the trout rarely get bigger than 12".

  47. GTtiOC on June 22, 2020 at 7:54 pm

Pole are fine for big fish if you used balanced tackle I had 3 carp n a match a few weeks back 13lb, 22lb and 28lb.

Nice to see these being used in America. Honestly you can get vastly superior presentation on the pole than you can get with a rod and line.

Also there are some techniques like tapping and slapping and fishing shallow that are incredibly successful over here in the UK.
