Backpacking the Wind River Range | Cirque of the Towers Loop via Texas Pass | Jackass Pass | CDT
Come along on an epic 6 day backpack in the Wind River Range of Wyoming! This is a loop that begins and ends at the Big Sandy trailhead. Joining me on this trip is Bryan DeLay (link to his YouTube channel is below). We traverse the burly Texas Pass as our entry point into the iconic and majestic Cirque of the Towers and hike many “unofficial trails” in the very rugged backcountry of The Winds! The scenery is absolutely stunning. I have come to consider this mountain range among the most beautiful in the world.

Definitely the most beautiful video on youtube over the last few years. You are an amazing video artist Catherine. I’ve watched this video several times before and always so terrific! Love the Wind River Range! Thank you.
Beautiful video π
Enjoying all of your adventures
Catherine Gregory . . thanks for posting . . . I hiked these trails thru the Wind River Range, by the Cirque of the Towers and JackAss Pass, back in October of 1988 . . . Originally, having planned to hike the Tetons, our trip there was thwarted with the continued Yellowstone Fires of ’88 . . .those trails had been closed the day before we arrived. Thus, a quick change, back downstate to the Wind River Range . . 6 days of very interesting trails . . .ironically it started raining on us the first morning . .and as we crossed the Continental Divide to the east, that turned into snow . . .lived in snow for 5 days . . . last day out, after crossing back over the divide to the west, a beautiful blue sky day greeted us . . . Sadly, I’ve never been back to get to see ALL the panoramic views. I do remember all the beautiful natural lakes . . by the scores and scores . . hundreds of them . . .from small half acre ponds to large 200+ acre lakes . . .
Love the Wind River Range. I did a backpacking trip. Did you see the old 100 year old cabin you can stay in? Itβs own by the state.
I have to add my two cents too. Once again your excellent choice of scenic locations shines through. But it is your "photographer’s eye" that makes your video so enjoyable. Who else would be able to see the beauty of tall green grasses waving in the wind!
My…God…..what a πππβ€
This hike is something I dream of doing..even though Iβve never hiked and I live 4250 miles away in Ireland!
Absolutely stunning views on this hike. For a Southern California girl, you hit the trail in an experienced way. Beautiful stils as well as the videos and narrative …..good choice of music too…..Great ! Thanks
Good morning π from New Mexico… awesome scenary…
Which country located this place?
Wow Cat this was so amazingly beautiful….like the Titons meets Yosemite but better….wow thank you. I’m saving your hikes so I hope to travel like you someday. Thank you thank you thank you πΌπ€πΌπ€πΌπ€πΌπ€πΌπ€πΌπ€πΌπ€πΌπ€πΌπ€πΌπ€πΌπ€
I noticed that you keep some food in your tent. Donβt you worry about grizzlies?
might it be possibe to list the name of the trails u took to follow this particular route… im going to try to conquer the summit loop and this route in 1 week….what was your entrypoint ? did u use all trails or reg map?
DO you think this trail is possible for late May/early June?
Itβs funny I just found this, my group and I stopped and talked with you guys for a few minutes on this trek. Love your video!
What an amazing wonderful place. Vids such as this take me to places I’ve never been. Although I know vid does not do places as beautiful as this justice. …Spots like "Texas Pass" show you just how small you really are in this ever expanding universe. Another wonderful vid. Thank you…keep living the good life, cheers!
Thankyou for taking me there with you .
Colorful country and enjoying it too looks great in the wild AWESOME VIDEO Catherine ππππππππππβ€οΈ video and enjoying it and watching now
Great job on the video! Beautiful place!
J must spend 10 days if I were there
Just came across your channel by chance. What a find! Your video is awesome. The Wind River Range is on my bucket list. Thanks so much for sharing.
Have not made it to the Wind River range yet, so this is a great preview! There was just one thing missing from all this scenery…. there were so few wildflowers when this should be the time of year the meadows are in full color. That seems odd! Thank you, Catherine!
Most beautiful place but only saw a few ducks at the end of the video. Where are all the animals. I didn’t see a bird in the whole video!
Beautiful views!
Great video highlighting the landscapes and beauty of the Winds! You seemed to find just the right spots to set up camp.
Whatβs the music you used for this video?
That was the most incredible thing I have seen
The places you go! I wish I was your hiking buddy. #respect from BC Canada. PS. Did you add reflector strips to your leggings?
Hi Cat! This backpacking adventure was truly stunning and dreamy! Beautiful weather. Green and flowery and snowy too! Thank you for creating this wonderful video and sharing it.
Thank you for this. My dad and I backpacked in when I was in 5th grade. We camped at Marms lake and did a day trip up Texas pass. Thanks for the footage which brings back good but challenging memories.
my wyoming , i have seen a place in my minds eye, a place with splendor that will take your breaths away…. my wyoming …. thank you for taking me to a place i could never see with my own eyes , in the place i call my wyoming ….
Wow! Just WOW! Stunning views.
people like us really appreciate your work . you give us a oasis in this world that is not always as peaceful and beautiful . thanks , kudos, God bless you
Nice video!!! I watched it because someone on YouTube invited me in a comment on my channel. Your video really helped me psychologically and emotionally prep for what might be coming my way this summer. I think I might have to physically prepare too since I d been hibernating in my house nearly the entire pandemic. πππ
Keep up the good work!!! ππ
So cool, Catherine.
They are the granite rock. They were formed inside the crust by the slow solidification of the magma. Some glacial landforms are very interesting, most likely from the Quaternary period.
Are permits required for this hike?
Wow
Hello!!! Just watched this video for the first time !! I love the wind river range but havenβt gotten there yet!! May I ask, how many miles was this trail that yβall did and how many miles did you do each day? My husband and I would love to do this loop sometime in the future. Possibly this next summer!
As always enjoyed this video . I particularly like the scenes with mountains reflected in still water. Your mountains are so much different than any around here it is a pleasure to go along on your journeys.πππ©
Awesome.
I was researching a trip to the Cirque and your video was absolutely perfect. Well done!
I enjoyed your video! Our family has been going to the Wind Rivers and the Green River Lakes since the 1940’s. I made a video describing my family’s history with this beautiful area of the world.
Wow what a gorgeous video!!! My oh my we gotta go there before we are too old to!! Thank you so much for this wonderful video!
U r very lucky.awsom place
Incredible video Catherine! Such a beautiful and remote place, planning a trip in the Winds this summer. Any run-in’s with bears on this trip?
Hey there, did you hike this in August?
