Bass Fishing – How to fish the Texas Rig

Bass Fishing – How to fish the Texas Rig

Bass Fishing most used rig. It has probably caught more bass than any other fishing rig. I love fishing the Texas Rig. It can catch largemouth bass anytime and anywhere. This is the perfect rig for beginner bass fishing.

Over the years I ended up pretty much just Texas rigging my worm but without a wait. In order to get it to cast good I buy a little bit thicker heavier plastic worm instead of a lighter one. This works so well along the bank and all kind of conditions, and the heavier worm will still allow your light fishing tackle to cast a pretty long ways using about a 6 lb test fluorocarbon . And for the spring spawn it is outstanding to do it like this., You can throw your worm a long way if you see fish nest Way off in the shallow and it allows you to drag and work your worm slow and easy without the weight wanting to stir up the dirt around the nest.. a lot of times during the spawn they will see it coming and hit it almost the same instant it hits the surface of the water. Really exciting stuff. Lol

once again great info.. Thank you.

I wanna thank you Gene, I started my bass fishing journey learning from your channel. Years later, studying your videos I’ve caught several bass to be proud of, even brought my daughter along (8 at the time) once who caught a 4 lber on a spinner bait. Much is due to your lessons, thank you so much!

  8. Garrick S on February 12, 2023 at 6:03 am

Does this work for crappie and smaller fish?

  9. Arturo Moreno on February 12, 2023 at 6:05 am

For some reason I have no no no luck.. I was thinking maybe since I fish from the bank; but I have seen other videos catch. Then I thought maybe coz where I am fishing there is no cover, the structure is rocks/rocky. I’m sure I’m doing something wrong… but I would love to catch anything on a text rig…

"What I do with my worm" lol .

  13. Dillon Surratt on February 12, 2023 at 6:07 am

The slow rolling, out of focus background of the trees and the woods is the best.

  14. Bruh Monkey on February 12, 2023 at 6:08 am

What’s the purpose of the weight? I’ve always used a senko weightless and had good results

  15. Zack B on February 12, 2023 at 6:10 am

you should hold the rig in front of the palm of your hand so the camera can actually come to focus on the rig instead of your face

  16. Rod R on February 12, 2023 at 6:12 am

    Nobody uses tru-turn hooks ? I only use tru-turn and 10# Berkeley trilene ! Caught me a 9 1/2 pounder on a zebco 33 .

  17. Matt on February 12, 2023 at 6:13 am

I think you need to work on learning how to focus your camera before you make any more videos.

After watching your video I decided to try the Texas Rig for the first time. Usually I just use spinners, crankbaits, and buzzbaits.
I’m using the same rod with the same braided line as always. I have caught very large bass with it and usually have no problem. Last night I had three hits, and all three broke the line almost instantly. I’m using a 1/4 ounce bullet bait and a number 4 hook. What could be causing this and what should I be thinking about doing differently?

  19. John Trew on February 12, 2023 at 6:15 am

Not catching one while filming is just reality. Thanks for keeping it real. It’s called fishing…not catching. Great video! I caught my personal best, a 6 lb largemouth, this summer using a Texas rigged green pumpkin. 👍🏻

  20. Anthony Hernandez on February 12, 2023 at 6:16 am

Muddy water: use dark, dark, colors…. or bright…

  21. Frank Ybarra on February 12, 2023 at 6:16 am

Maybe BETTER planning before you start your video presentation. Just a thought!

    Great video!

  24. Chris Walter on February 12, 2023 at 6:18 am

Hey man could I use a braided line on every spin reel or does it have to be a certain type of spin reel that is made for braided line?

  25. Gage Adventures on February 12, 2023 at 6:20 am

    Nice

  26. Pete Moore on February 12, 2023 at 6:21 am

9:15 is the most important part. COVER WATER and learn ALL TYPES of casts. They go hand in hand.

You need to get rid of the "Z" on the side of your cap. Looks as if you are supporter of Russia in the Ukrainian war.

  32. Patrick Griffith on February 12, 2023 at 6:26 am

"really bad quality" So is the focus on this video

  33. Nobody Special on February 12, 2023 at 6:29 am

Thanks for sharing. I’ve been learning to fish here in the Midwest. A lot different than fishing on the Pacific Ocean.

  34. Eric Baars on February 12, 2023 at 6:30 am

I think I have watched this video 20 time now trying to figure out why I just can never catch a fish using the texas rig, I have caught them plenty weightless just never with the bullet weight on there.

  35. Anthony Hernandez on February 12, 2023 at 6:31 am

Different ways you can cast: any way you want to…

Yesterday i caught my 2nd biggest bass on a Texas rigged zoom bubblegum trick worm. First ever fist on a Texas rig, my go to is wacky rigged senkos and dingers.

  42. Kal K on February 12, 2023 at 6:37 am

What size is the hook? Bank fishing in Rivers and Lakes.

    "Hasn’t quite committed?" Love that!

  44. Cory Falde on February 12, 2023 at 6:41 am

I really needed this video today. I had a frustrating day fishing. I posted up by a bush in my kayak, a bass bit my senko in half twice, I switched to a smaller bait hoping to get the hook in it’s mouth better and it didn’t bite again. Switched back to a senko and still nothing. Went home empty handed.

It’s actually reassuring to see a pro have a similar outcome.

  45. ibanez2010 on February 12, 2023 at 6:43 am

As a bank fisherman, T-rig is life for me! I can fish it fast near the surface when they fish are hot, or low and slow when they are not. Without changing hooks I can swap between curly tails, stick baits, creatures, craws, or whatever!

  46. MKfishing on February 12, 2023 at 6:44 am

My favorite is the texas rig too, everywhere I go I need that weedless setup
to keep from pulling all the grass out of the water. :p
