Canoeing the Mad River in Ohio 4K

Robby and I hit up a canoe spot near Columbus along the Mad River in Western Ohio. It’s an easy and simple canoe spot with camping sites available.

i hate that you guys don’t have more subscribers than this, that’s not fair. You guys should have gone viral. 🙁

  2. Carlo Arcenal on May 22, 2020 at 4:21 pm

This is probably the most stress free episode of AA.; for a river called Mad, the canoe trip was the complete opposite. I don’t blame Robbie at 04:24 after that disaster in Manistee. I would be traumatized as well.

  3. Fred Smith on May 22, 2020 at 4:22 pm

You had to paddle fast to just keep up with those leaves …. zooming by …. that’s why they call them leaves ….

  4. TailEnd88 on May 22, 2020 at 4:22 pm

I like that your channel offers these short videos in addition to the full length episodes. The variety keeps things fun.
You two guys always get philosophical when you are together. It’s cute :3 I agree, doing is much better than having. A rich life is not gained by material things.

  5. WesleyMarkMusic on May 22, 2020 at 4:26 pm

You guys are fun to travel with. I’m not far from Mad River but have not canoed it in years. Great video.

Canoes are an excellent way to get to know Ohio. Nice fun trip guys!
Kudos on the hang drum music too 🙂

Hey, guys, if you’re looking for a good long-distance canoe trip, consider Missouri’s spring-fed rivers like the Current River or the Eleven Point. The Eleven Point has the
h "wild and scenic" distinction from the NPS (meaning is is mostly undeveloped, very natural), has GREAT on-river camping spots, and is perfect for a 2-day or 3-day float. Also, it isn’t hugely traveled the way the Current River can be during the warm seasons. STRONGLY recommend both rivers! 🙂

Please keep making your awesome videos!

I think change is definitely a must for me in my life. That’s why I like hiking and camping so much you can visit the same spot 100 times and the plants will be different, the wildlife will be different and the weather as well. So being in the same spot still creates a new experience. Outstanding and scenic video as always.

I forgot about Suwannee river also

  13. Melissa_9 on May 22, 2020 at 4:34 pm

Very nice river. There really is something truly relaxing about canoeing. Thanks for taking us along!

When you live in the California low desert, you look forward to the change in the fall.

If you are looking for a long distance canoe trip, Fisheating creek, Blackwater river and Juniper springs are considered the best in FL
Edit: Actually Juniper springs is way to short. Everglades and Ten Thousand Islands are better

  16. Adam K on May 22, 2020 at 4:37 pm

You at AA should canoe the BWCA.
    : )
I was fortunate to have canoed 101 miles of it, in two trips.

Robby looked more like a true nature man with long hair, we think. Great video, beautiful light, perspective, comments, perfect harmony.

  18. Scott Coryell on May 22, 2020 at 4:38 pm

You want a long distance trip you should drive to Missouri and spend 4-6 days on the Current River!

  19. Cal Phillips on May 22, 2020 at 4:40 pm

Awesome trip, I actually live right near the Mad and fly fish there multiple times per week in the summer. I started an organization called FLOATR (Friends Leading Outdoor Advocacy for Trails and Rivers) to contribute to the cleanup of the river. The trout population and the river’s beauty are important and need to be conserved! It’s just me and a few friends right now, but slowly we’re making an impact. Check out our instagram page: @floatrivers

If I may, If you are seriously considering a long distance paddling expedition, I strongly recommend invest in some instruction from an ACA certified instructor. Paddling, especially in flat or slow moving water, may seem straight forward, but if you are talking about a long distance with a lot of heavy gear without support/help close by, it really helps to be trained in the proper techniques and know what to do in case of emergency. Also, you need to do some research on the proper gear to take with you. For example, those type-II horseshoe-style PFD’s you are wearing, don’t really cut for a long distance trip. You need a comfortable type III or IV PFD Such as the NRS Ion or the Astral Blue Jacket. Astral also has some more economical models like the Ronny that will work as well. I love what you do with this channel. Stay safe out there and remember people are looking to you for an example so promote safety.

You guys have to try Woodland Caribou Provincial Park out of Red Lake, Ontario. Get in touch with Harlan at Red Lake Outfitters (https://www.redlakeoutfitters.com/). He’s an awesome guy and will hook you up with the trip of a life time. I went in 2017 and loved it so much we had to do it again this year. Here’s a link to last year’s trip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyR9BJKCUBo&t=30s

  25. Tony Straw on May 22, 2020 at 4:47 pm

You guys were made to canoe the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, with all you bushcrafting skills, and I bet Thomas could even catch a fish there 🙂 Its beautiful there. Its crazy up there you pick your route through and may not see another soul your entire trip. Look it up boys, Andrew would be in heaven, When I was there you can collect water right out of the middle of the lake and drink it. It was sooo much fun

If u went down mad river now it would be dangerous because there was a lot of rain

There is a canoe race every year in San Marcos, Texas that starts at the headwaters of the San Marcos River and ends all the way into the Gulf at matagorda bay

yeah do more canoe trips! come to ontario! you’d love temagami or killarney

  33. Steve S on May 22, 2020 at 4:58 pm

You guys should go see the Buffalo National River in Arkansas. It’s beautiful any time of the year, but if you plan to float be sure to check the water levels before plan a trip.

  34. Maxima on May 22, 2020 at 4:59 pm

What would be interesting would be to take water samples from your canoe trips.

This video took me back to my childhood. My Dad took me and some friends and family down this river. Sadly he has passed on but i can remember the good times we had doing stuff like this. Thanks for posting this it gave me wonderful memories with my Dad.

  36. Lisa M on May 22, 2020 at 5:01 pm

Love your paddling videos. How many cameras do you use to shoot something like this. My husband and I have two Go Pros. We attached them to the front of our kayaks. Our footage gets boring after awhile.

  37. Zach Durrett on May 22, 2020 at 5:01 pm

Any camping along that river? Looked like a nice & easy paddle. I vote yes for a long distance canoe trip!!

  38. Amy Walker on May 22, 2020 at 5:02 pm

I find beauty in every season and feel so aware of the seasons. I also always find myself at the end of a season looking so forward to the next one. I feel lucky to live in an area ( Southeastern Kentucky) where we have defined seasons even though spring and fall feel much shorter!

Much love for Ohio from the banks of the Mad in Dayton!

Awesome guys, must have been a little hard upstream paddling to retrieve the camera, i can imagine bryan did everything to avoid this after manistee 😁, but more canoeing in your main episodes would be nice i really enjoyed the split hike and canoeing in manistee
