Catch & Cook Pheasant Hunting With The Firebox Wood Fueled Camping Stove!

Catch & Cook Pheasant Hunting With The Firebox Wood Fueled Camping Stove!

I was invited to join a private pheasant hunt (Birds were farm raised) with family and thought it would be nice to cook up some of the harvest right in the field. We were running out of daylight, so we chose to cut out the breast meat and saved to rest of the meat to take home. Tasted amazing! Fried the still warm breast meat from a ring neck pheasant and a chucker in lots of butter. II ran the Firebox Stove on charcoal, which worked out perfectly!

A special thanks to my cousins who were nice enough to let me tag along.

Maybe some herbs and seasonings for the tenders. It is still good just fried in butter. But I am a culinary snob. Some red wine and rosemary would help, along with some fresh thyme.

Like I said,…I’m a snob. I like enjoying not only the hunt, but the cooking afterwords. I use an MSR firefly and cook my trout or game within an hour after I catch them.

Wine goes into a collapsible bottle for cooking and drinking. Herbs are always in small containers which I carry in my pack. Always carry butter and lard with me.

A tipple of good port or Bourbon whiskey is another pack in absolute.

I’m 62 years young, and now am looking to enjoy every day as if it is my last. As it might well be.

Savor every moment and look to every sunrise as a new beginning.

Stock-up on these memories to have when you will eventually grow old. To have something to look back upon and remember with fondness.

Best way to top-off a pheasant/ chukar hunt:….cook the birds right there in the field.

Best bird I had was a Spruce Grouse in Idaho, which was cooked within 4 minutes of being shot.

I don’t mind the hunting, but I do mind pathetic cooking. If you are going to eat it, season it and cook it right.

I’m going hunting with birds of prey for the first time soon. Either with a goshawk or a Harris hawk. The birds eat what we catch. Though we sometimes take the pheasant because it’s too good to pass up!

Very nice. I think you should eat the legs etc too. That way nothing edible does to waste and those taste pretty good too.
