We rented the large RV June 2019 and had a very unpleasant experience. The RV is old, noisy, smelly and a very uncomfortable drive. Day 1 into our trip the water pump broke and we had no water to the unit. I tried calling the 800 number but couldn’t get anyone on a Sunday. Finally got someone on Monday and let me tell you – they are not helpful or friendly. They got back to me 2 days later telling me to take it in for service somewhere totally out of our way. Don’t wast your vacation time or money with this company, you’ll be left dissatisfied.

Your reviews saved me, I doing am research to rent CruiseAmerica for my family vacation. Thank you!

Dirty, sticky, black feet and the baby got dirty – No. That is a deal breaker. I’d make a u-turn and give it back. Thank you for this head-up.

If you come to the US again for holiday, look at came across it on the google box earlier while looking for alternatives to cruise america. I am currently planning a trip across the US with my father and used that site.. It appears to be personal owners that have RV and rent them. Some are trailers some are campers, some have unlimited mileage some don’t but they are pretty reasonable. Lots of variety and different models, the pricing is not set, its whatever each owner wants to charge. I ended up renting a 28 ft trailer, with outdoor sink / stove, shower, bathroom, unlimited miles and no generator fees for $750 / week, so ended up getting it for 2 weeks. We have not planned where to go yet, but 2 weeks should be sufficient. Oh and often the people will deliver it for free if you are in a 50 mile or so radius… but then again you would need to rent a vehicle to pull it… so it might come out even either way.

Great info. What location did you rent from? Planning similar trip. Tks (have heard El Monte has better product).

Lucky you came before the government shutdown and didn’t have to deal with some parks closed or their facilities closed. Nice review!

OMG – I never checked into renting an RV here in America, I would have expected the kitchen to be stocked with the basics. Blankets sheets & pillows too, in a "just cleaned" sterile bag (same as what’s provided when you rent a home or rental). Glad you were able to get past that experience and enjoy the rest of your visit. I haven’t been to the West Coast yet, looking forward to it within in the nest 5yrs. KYD (Keep your Daydream) rented an RV in New Zealand, their videos were great, and the unit they rented was very clean and updated. Visting your homeland is on my bucket WISH list.

Thanks for sharing, very helpful review, although wondering if you didn’t mention how much the moho cost because it was sponsored?

  16. studyboynz on May 15, 2020 at 4:33 pm

Thanks Mat, good to know these things for future reference. What you opinion on people sharing campers, such as still having a degree of privacy, such as singles and different families.

THANK YOU, very helpful!!! I’m trying to decide if I want to try out motor home travel/vacationing by renting one, and you’ve given me some things to look out for. I had already heard a good bit of negative things about Cruise America’s vehicle quality and maintenance, and your experience confirms my overall impression; I will probably look elsewhere if I decide to rent! Thanks again 💐

Really appreciate this guys, was about to go with Cruise America, dont think I will now. Could you state the two other companies where you saw the RVs on the road and they looked better? Will research them too.

Thank you for posting an interesting and useful video. The future wife and I are getting married in Vegas on the Fourth of July 2019. Before we do, I need to clean out a storage unit in Austin. We thought about how we can use a large capacity vehicle during our stay in Texas. LaDama, an experienced traveler with an RV in New Zealand tells me, hey, why don’t we hire a caravan (Spanish word for RV)? That is how Rosy appeared in my life.

I’d certainly like to know how y’all managed the $57/day rate….I just checked my local Cruise America and for the exact same motorhome in your video, the rental was $140/day, which is about the same daily rate I found at other places like, etc. On top of the $140/day they want to charge you per mile…I was planning an 800-mile trip, and the additional charge was going to be another $280 on top of the $140/day. Add to all this any campground fees, etc. It’s outrageously expensive to rent a motorhome….cheaper to rent a car with unlimited miles and stay in motels.

  24. Sea Kayaker on May 15, 2020 at 4:47 pm

Cruising in this RV next week for two weeks, it had better be CLEAN!! If it isn’t, I’m going to slaughter them on social media reviews! Thanks for your video and honesty.

  25. Silver Boomer on May 15, 2020 at 4:50 pm

and i bet it was expensive. Charging a cleaning fee when you have to clean it!! thanks for the review.. It would be cheaper to rent a car and stay in motels.

Hi and thanks for that very useful video ! Is Cruise America providing levelers or wheel chocks ?

  33. David Garcia on May 15, 2020 at 5:03 pm

What are the other RV rental companies? Which do you recommend? I want to plan a trip with the family around the Grand Circle in the Southwest to see the national parks.
