You cannot use rainbow trout as bait in Texas as they are classified as gamefish. It’s a dumb rule but don’t want to see you get in trouble for it.

Try making the length of line between your packbait lead and hook shorter. 3-6 inches long will produce more fish for you often its the weight of the lead that hooks the fish and a longer hook link means it can swim further before it comes into contact with the weight o f that lead.
