Frio River Trip to Leakey & Concan Texas
We traveled from Lampasas Texas to Leakey Texas. We stayed at the Clearwater Ranch & Resort on the Frio (Facebook or http://www.frio.net/index.html). Drove past Buchanan lake and Dam. Saw a longhorn bull. Watched live music/bands/concerts. Hiked to the top of a mountain. Visited Concan and Garner State Park. Saw squirrels, turtles, and catfish. Rented a paddle boat. Ate ice cream at the Garner State Park Concessions building. Played put put golf. Danced at the Jukebox Dance. Saw bats at the Frio Bat Flight. Saw an antique pipe used by confederates in civil war to make gunpowder. Visited Josh’s Frio River Outfitters, Leakey Mercantile, Neals Dining Room. Learned the town is named after the first white settler to the Frio Canyon, John Leakey. Went swimming, fishing, tubing, and sunbathing.

I grew up on the frío. My grandparent’s retired there. They were well known in Concan, Ramon S Casanova and family. You nor anyone should ever go down a low river. Especially the frío. Not advertise it Nor dare do it!

I follow y’all yesterday in palo pinto county on fm 4 south and saw yall jeep behind the fifth wheel and saw yall social media platform.
Since most of TX is in drought conditions, I fear that our trip to Leakey will be a bust in terms of river flow and levels. We are going in mid-July and you already said the river is low. Stagnant pools are probably what we’ll get. Thanks for showing the river.
