i remember the days when we weren’t allowed to use calculators in class. i did my math, and it had "show your work". i hated that. (i couldn’t- i learned w/o books, or the teacher). i just did the test, and i wrote, "YOUR WORK"… my teachers hated me. (i aced my test scores, too.)

can you edit the video so it says the programming language is called "basic" please?

  6. Man0Man on November 22, 2022 at 5:37 am

i’ve programmed a few programs useful for class like the quad formula, factoring, a drawing game, and finding circumference and area of circles, perimeter of triangle and square. i also made a random number generator where i had to guess the number and it told me if I’m right
    let’s go

This is only the tip of the TI-84 iceberg! The kid who sat next to me in Algebra managed to port SMB1 onto his. He said his brother helped him do it but DAMN were we all jealous!!!

Ti84 programming jumpstarted my path in programming. I was able to make a large-scale classic-esque rpg (with bosses and an inventory!), numerous platformers, a rhythm game, and even some other entirely unique games.
    Now I make actual games.

Advice for those who wish to follow a similar path:
Try out ti84 programming. Don’t have one? Look for a (FREE! dont waste money!) emulator online. Android has WabbitEmu which works wonders.
Once you feel skilled with this, it’s time to apply your logic elsewhere. An easy language would be Python or Lua. I went with lua because I had previous experience from.. a garbage platform.
That aside, I suggest learning the language as is. I made a simple volume calculator first, as I was in 9th grade I believe. Lots of geometry, so why not automate it? Eventually I remade battleship against an ai, and much later, a chess engine.
Now that you have probably spent 2 or 3 years doing that, it’s time to pick up a game engine. or framework. For Python, you have PyGame, and for Lua, you have Löve2D. I of course went with Löve, since I already went with Lua.
Don’t be afraid of the new 2 dimensional plane you have to work with. It takes a minute to learn, but once you do, it becomes very fun. I have made numerous games, with one being 3-4 months in at 2k+ lines! Löve is a very versatile language.
Now is time for the most difficult change. Not only a true game engine, but a 3d one at that. Or one with 2d capabilities if you like 2d. I don’t care. Unity and Unreal are likely your main go-to’s, or maybe Godot. Simply a matter of preference.
I have not gotten that far, but my advice would be to treat it the same. Learn the engine, get used to the new abilities, and use what you’ve learned.
Thank you for reading. I wrote way too much and outlasted the video. I hope this comes in useful to you.

I’ll be opening up some stuff on my github if you want to go check it out. "whakened" is the username.
Don’t give up, hard is only hard when you haven’t gotten to understand it. Then it’s just a matter of doing it.

I use a CASIO, the only thing I know how to do on it is, calculate and write, the writing program could be cool if I was on the road and I wanted to read a book that I wrote onto the calculator

I bought a ti-84 plus with python built into it, but it’s so tedious 😅🙃
