…. I really needed this clarification I hope you are right. However it was mentioned in Warhammer world. It is not unreasonable to think that they would expand Warhammer world rules… but they haven’t yet I guess.
I can’t really blame players for this. GW has been antsy about their IP lately and just discovering the WHW rules can send a shockwave of misunderstanding to the people who already get barely any proper news from GW
My problem is mainly with the new forbidding of any third party bits. You can argue that GW have a right to do this at their tournaments. Maybe. Except they were previously fine with _some_ third party bits, so long as the models were mainly Citadel parts. There was a measure of leeway, that GW has no removed.
That’s a dick move. Not only because it deprives players of the ability to make select changes to their models (models that, again, they have already purchased from GW). But because there are loads of competitive players who had armies that were, under then existing rules, perfectly legal, that suddenly aren’t anymore. There were folks who held up their side of "the deal", but now GW have altered the deal. Formerly legal armies are rendered illegal, forcing folks to buy and paint new models or even entire armies if they want to keep competing.
Which, of course, is exactly the point. GW isn’t content to have some of the money, they want ALL the money. They aren’t content to have already gotten money out of people previously, they need to get more. Always more. GW doesn’t care about you unless you’re actively handing them wads of cash.
That Scarab looks sweet!
I swear I have never met a group of online fans more lazy about fact checking than Warhammer fans. I’m constantly seeing misconceptions about rules, lore and GW’s business practices spread through the fandom like wildfire as people only interface with releases through a layer of abstraction.
A lot of people online only engage with the hobby through the lens of the online communities/creators and never bother to check if this weeks Grimdank meme is in any way accurate, if this well known “lore” comes from any source or sprung up fully formed upon 1d4chan, or if the rules as written match the “news” they’ve heard on reddit.
Honestly, I wouldn’t have been surprised if this was true, considering how much bank they make from the figures.
Unrelated topic but i love making traitor guardsmen.
I think the best general practice is to just talk with tournament organizers and LGS’s, and have the decency to not 3D print a FULL ARMY then insist on playing it.
Fuck tankies, Stan democracy.
It makes sense that GW only one want their stuff at their events. It’s like magic/wizards not allowing proxies at sanctioned events. Wizards would totally not be ok if I scribbled Scalding Tarn on a couple of my basics and called them legit lol
Wow Mister Vincent of PleasantKenobi fame, is that BOOGER on your nose in this highly serious entertainment video on this highly serious video entertainment website? Golly gee man, I swear this will be something good for viewer engagement.
My 3d printed Tyranid bio terrain is sick, no WH models for a lot of the stuff in lore.
As far as I’m aware Warhammer world has always had this rule of only their models
Why does Selesnya hate 3d printers?!
I guess I missed the point… If you go to a DCI event, you have to use real cards, not proxies (alters are a different discussion). Warhammer also wants real pieces, not "proxy" pieces.
Just play with friends, and just have fun!
No 3D models, eh?……..So, hypothetically, a Jade carving on a wooden base……is legal? 😂
Thanks for the shoutout! I completely agree, a lot of folks jump on anything that could be construed as "GW BAD", even if its not completely true.
Nah capitalism is pretty damn good
What are your thoughts on the painting rules with different factions within your army needing to be painted differently. After being sucked into this hobby by you and dicecheck I got into tyranids and I painted all my models the same because I like the purple. Now if I take different hive fleets I need to repaint them all?
Thanks Vince
Engagement nose skin!
Hey Vince you’ve got something on your nose. Maybe a booger. Also you shouldn’t support Amazon they’re evil.
and now i cant unsee the booger
Penis nose
I am engaging so I can see the Omnath Figure 🙂
A friend named this “the poison” at my LGS. Someone says something and everyone just accepts it, and it slowly spreads and takes over all the tables at the store.
Who do you think whines and complains more? The MTG or 40k community. Most people don’t care. I picked up a sweet looking Mando miniature to proxie as a Vindicare Assassin. Just check with either the TO or your playgroup. Most of the time that’ll clear up any issues. Most of the 40k community does seem to be more lax on proxies compared to MTG though.
I recall Goonhammer did something similar in their admech codex review.
I feel you are grossly GROSSLY misusing the term, "wrong end of the stick". Its cool, Gaming companies like GW and WOTC have been giving their customers one degree or another of the wrong end of the stick for years, the term usually refers to the rougher end of the proverbial, "stick" being proverbially shoved up the proverbial fundament, or Asshole.
"In the North of England…" not really ;p Nottingham, the Midlands….
Gw don’t like fans
That alternate model for 1K sons is awesome.
I had to do a double take when Vince mentioned Tankies
Sounds just like alters in MtG. Let the judge look at them first, if it’s not too egregious you’re good to go
I think the thing that irked me most about the kneejerk rageboner that the internet had originally about this, is that apparently, these have been the rules at WH World for years. And once people saw the Auspex Tactics video, the internet lost its collective shit… :[
I’m glad people are out there like EoB and now you setting the record straight. Though! Since these have been the rules for years, it’s highly doubtful we’ll see them adopted at the GT level 🙂 as ya know, why start now, right?
You got me started in 40k with your Necrons Vince. Now your doing Ksons as I am….
Well here’s my problem, GW either refuses to sell the things I want, or sells low quality versions if they do.
I WOULD buy a few assorted sheathed swords to add to my models, but they don’t sell them. I WOULD buy a box of Kasrkyn, but those are limited time only. I WOULD buy a pack of female heads but they only sell stormcast heads that are ugly as hell. One even has a full on raised pig nose. If they made Citadel Brand upgrade kits or individual parts that look good, I WOULD buy them. But they don’t. So I have to go to puppets war.
Forgeworld in my experience is more expensive and lower quality than anything else on the market. So it strikes me as GW just throwing a hypocritical tantrum.
Even when they sell an alternative, it’s not always better. The current Eldar sculpts are older than I am, they’re never getting a refresh. So why get pissed when your customer looks at a pack of models with bubble gum hair, and goes to a third party company that actually gives a damn about the faction? XD
We’d love to have you up in Notts to see GW HQ Vince, as long as you do a meetup 😛 (Miss Corona willing)
I do have to slide my glasses up my nose and say, "Well actually" though, as it’s just barely north of East Midlands Airport, meaning, it’s in the midlands, not the north.
ITS WEDNESDAY! that can only mean one thing….
WARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR HAMMERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!
also, I FUCKIN NEED THAT OMNATH!
I mean, I am just slowly hunting down more pewter Vostroyan Firstborn and if anything, I would very much prefer that the models aren’t recast. But that’s how I am, whatever someone else does, I got no major issue.
As soon as I noticed the dry skin you mentioned it lol
A while back the PlayEDH discord – the biggest discord for organizing SpellTable games – began requiring players to be subbed at the dollar tier to their Patreon in order to use their bot to queue for games. People went ballistic and completely trashed them for demanding they pay a dollar… despite the fact that the server also had a simple form you could sign that would whitelist you for the bot for free if you couldn’t pay, and they mentioned several times they’d never ask for proof or an explanation of why you couldn’t pay. They just needed you to tick a box to verify you read why they wanted a dollar and give em your Discord name to whitelist.
…but of course every MTG community I saw was just up in arms about the server becoming PAY TO PLAY – never mentioning that you can very much still play for free, and usually just casually skipping over how the amount you ‘had’ to pay was just a singular dollar… People just wanna be angry about things.
Tbf I probably wouldn’t have noticed it.
3-D printed models of GW is the symptom. The disease is the cost GW wants to charge for the plastic crack they peddle. LOL I still remember when they switched to plastic from pewter and were like ” MOAR OPTIONS, MOAR SPRUES, MOAR MODELS FOR LESS COST…” A new chaos god is born. Long live the fourth Chaos god of Greed 😛
NGL – I would not have noticed the bogey had you not mentioned it.
Knee-jerk reactionary nerds? In this hobby? Never!
The salty backlash from gatekeeping purists (those that act as though they are custodians of the game and lore) has done more to put me off 40k then any of the bad shit GW has ever done.
Meanwhile I go to tournaments, lairs of meta-chasing scum and try-hard villany according to these people, and have the best time playing I’ve ever had; meeting some of the most genuine and friendly people ever.
Vince: Im so glad my camera has incredible video quality….
Also Vince: ….fuck..
The WHW rules have been the same for years. I worked there for a brief period in 2008, they had the same rules then as now, the same rules as every GW store on the planet.
Have Games Workshop Banned Fan Made Content?
I could’ve gone my whole life w/o seeing the nose spooge there. Now I can’t not see it. I’m sure there was something this video was about, but for the life of me, I couldn’t tell you what. Not anymore.
