How to Rent an RV – First Time

Pack your Glamping shirt because we are renting an RV for the first time! Here are eight things you need to know right now about renting an RV for the first time:
#1 If you do not enjoy camping, you will like using a Recreational Vehicle. If this is your first time renting a Recreational Vehicle, you will do fine. Newbies will discover that renting an RV for the first time is easy! If you are a non-camper, renting an Motor Vehicle is the way to go. In an RV you will see so many different cities in one vacation!
We loved our whole process renting an RV from CruiseAmerica!

Why do you say not to drink the sink water??

This is a very helpful video. We are trying to decide between renting a class c motor home or renting a large van and doing motels (4 adults and 2 preschoolers). May I ask how you handled side trips (tourist attractions), as in car rental or driving the motor home to site see.

thanks for the helpful tips about traveling in an RV. The towels never feeling dry and the boxed AC in the RV, which leaves you with a damp feeling is a major issue with me so I will make my first trip is only three or four days.

Thank you for this! My husband and I are starting to plan a trip to Utah with our 4 year old. There has s no way I would travel West (we’re in central Texas) without free access to a bathroom.
One question: do most campsites have laundry access?

  10. Jeanne Stark on May 28, 2020 at 4:56 pm

Regarding your comment about the coffee maker I would’ve brought a coffee maker with me. I have a cappuccino machine.

Wow Laurie I felt like I’m not a first timer anymore! Glamping 🙋that’s me! My first RV was a Travel Trailer and it felt like camping. Now, I have a motorized unit so it feels more Glamorous 👑

If a campsite doesn’t have a water hookup at each site does it usually have a place to fill up your water tank somewhere in the campground? If not, how do you refill during a trip?

Thank you for the info!! I take care of my mom who had dementia and with Covit right now I’m restless and so is my husband but taking her to public restrooms isn’t something that I’d want to chance. We’re thinking of renting an Rv to go an abroad trip for a few days. Having all the amenities is important to us.

Thanks Laurie, My wife and I are going to rent the same size RV,, driving 2500 miles in 17 days. Was the RV easy to drive and what were the MPG for your trip. You have
given us some excellent ideas for our senior adventure. We are flying into Calgary and renting from Canadream 50% discount on mileage plus 10% total off. You talked me into renting the pots the string of lights we will purchase there so to bring back something I will get those clips. Safe travels to you. We rented from CA in the 90s when our 3 children were young great time in the Rockies. Everyone was sleeping and dad just unplugged and drove to our next stop.

This is perfect! Just what I’ve been looking for! Our family lives in the east, but we’re dying to get out and see some of the national parks out west. We thought this might be the perfect way ( fly out and rent an RV). Any thoughts on how to keep out the damp?

  42. Books With B on May 28, 2020 at 5:24 pm

Found this video right on time!! We’re prepping for our first RV trip next month (renting from Cruise America also). Thank you for all of the helpful info. I’ve done quite a bit of research and you still hit some points I hadn’t discovered. So thank you so much!!

    O beautiful for spacious skies,
    For amber waves of grain,
    For purple mountain majesties
    Above the fruited plain!
    America! America!
God shed His grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
    From sea to shining sea!
