Lakeside Chautauqua – A Most Unique Camping Experience!

Lakeside Chautauqua – A Most Unique Camping Experience!

Come with us to the Lake Erie shoreline in Ohio and experience Chautauqua Lakeside, a 143-year-old gated summer community that began as a campground and still is one today – along with hundreds of charming cottages, recreational, spiritual, educational and entertainment activities.
Our experience was very positive but it got us thinking and wondering what other RVers think of such a place, with lots of organized activities but plenty of space and time for relaxation.
They have a 7 year wait for a seasonal spot there and that got us wondering about how many RVers would like a seasonal spot in an RV park or development. They also have overnight spots available. but reservations are needed.
What do you think? Please let us know in the comments below.

I’m ashamed to say that I live about an hour and a half away from there and I’ve never been there. But I plan on making a weekend trip up there now. Thank you for a great video.

I’m curious about the effort involved with your videos, and I will ask you a couple questions based on this 17 minute…and good looking…video.

How long does it take you to edit and process for uploading to your channel?

How much video do you need to sort through to reach your final version?

With all the other tasks you perform, what has made video editing quicker for you?

Thank you so much. We met in Glacier last summer and if I’d known anything about your efforts I’d have asked you in person!

Hope you’ll come to WNY to the Original Chautauqua Institute. In fact, I was not aware of Lakeside!

If only the worthless politicians could keep the lake clean! But then again they’re politicians.

We visited in my childhood. It has changed quite a bit, but the cottages look the same. Glad to see there is still a symphony in August. And the peaches!!! Mmmm.

I am familar with the program … community at Lake Chautauqua in western NY (the original Chautauqua, I believe) but not Lakeside Chautauqua in Ohio. The appearance …. and ‘the feel’ seem similar. They seem to take you back you to a simpler, more enlightening time. I always.felt I was in a.different time and place when at Lake Chautauqua. Beautiful. I’m going to look into Lakeside for next year. Nice to go to someplace new ☺
    Excellent video. 👍

Absolutely love this video! You two are really taking these trips and producing award winning documentaries for us all to learn about. I watched late last night and fell fast asleep dreaming about being there. 🙂

  25. Walking Writer on July 6, 2020 at 7:30 pm

Wow, what a beautiful place! A little oasis from the real world. All that food and produce looked amazing. And 2/5 of the 5th Dimension, too. Awesome!

  30. NorthCoastGirl1 on July 6, 2020 at 7:39 pm

Awesome video! Next time you are in the area…you may want to visit the Marblehead Lighthouse. It’s the oldest continuously operating lighthouse on the Great Lakes-since 1822! It is right up the road from Lakeside.

  31. rayblg on July 6, 2020 at 7:44 pm

Great Video. Thank You very much.

  32. Cecil Treadwell on July 6, 2020 at 7:45 pm

Check out the PDX Recumbent website and their videos on YouTube.
They are located in Portland, Oregon and provide you an excellent excuse to RV there.
They have 30 models ready for test riding and an upcoming mega event in October.
FOLDING RECUMBENT TRIKES represent a QUANTUM AUGMENTATION of the RV experience.

  33. Thomas Binns on July 6, 2020 at 7:46 pm

Great overview of a very special place.

  34. Cecil Treadwell on July 6, 2020 at 7:47 pm

The banjo is an African instrument, but I would love to hear a good banjo player there as well.

  35. Shirlie Stephens on July 6, 2020 at 7:47 pm

Three days is not long enough for Lakeside 😊.

  36. Michael Jessen on July 6, 2020 at 7:48 pm

  37. alli J on July 6, 2020 at 7:48 pm

  38. Cecil Treadwell on July 6, 2020 at 7:51 pm

Without that Unity WONDER, I can no longer be a stowaway.

  39. Jennifer Fashian on July 6, 2020 at 7:53 pm

We’ve gone to Lakeside annually for nearly 17 years now. We compare it to Mayberry. It’s something you have to experience to understand…and why you might cry when you have to leave. it’s the most relaxing vacation that at the same time has activities from early morning to bedtime. You park and don’t get back in your car for a week. It’s a kids’ dream vacation come true. If you go don’t miss: Patio donuts (beat Duck donuts hands-down), climb on the rocks, Sloopy’s pizza, a walk down the lakefront, bike and bike and bike, play shuffleboard as much as you can, try the new pickleball courts, stop or two or three at Marilyns (kids dream candy shop etc), and don’t miss the shows at Hoover Auditorium.

  40. RVing Sooz on July 6, 2020 at 7:53 pm

    Quite a place!

  41. Linda Tann on July 6, 2020 at 7:54 pm

Love your videos! How do you like your Leisure Van? Pros & cons? Expensive repairs? We are looking at the Unity twin model.

  42. Corrine Martig on July 6, 2020 at 7:55 pm

Oh! Great video, you covered it all I think, beautiful, thank you!

  43. Corrine Martig on July 6, 2020 at 7:55 pm

We love Lakeside! We took our son and daughter in law there for a long weekend when they came from Oregon for a visit. Being architects they loved seeing the cottages and enjoyed the Lakeside tranquility. Celebrated our anniversary there this year with dinner at the Hotel and program at Hoover! Do hope Jennifer recovered from the reflexology massage, forgive me but I chuckled! Glad you enjoyed your visit.

  44. David Madrid on July 6, 2020 at 7:56 pm

  45. Janice Crockett on July 6, 2020 at 7:56 pm

Oh! My! I love it. Thank you so much for sharing your visit to this wonderful place. I have just lengthened my bucket list. One question, is it animal friendly? We have 2 mini Schnauzers that travel with us everywhere.
