Letchworth State Park, NY, USA in HD

The Letchworth SP is advertised as “The Grand Canyon of the East”, and it certainly is quite impressive and beautiful, even though it cannot stand comparison with the Grand Canyon. This video shows views from the Gorge Trail and from West and East rims, with the Lower, Middle and Upper falls. Recorded September 2012 in HD with Panasonic TM900.

such beauty God has created for us to enjoy!

All of this property was once owned by Mary Jemison, The White Squaw of the Genesee.  If you are not familiar with her story, look it up.  It is amazing.

But the Grand Canyon doesn’t have fall foliage does it? Just saying. This park is near and dear to me having gone every year of my childhood. Lovely video. BTW Mary Jemison never owned the property. Though she did live on the banks of the river. Her story is quite fascinating and some of her descendants still live in Upstate NY and one of them gives lectures at Ganondagan which is a NY State Historic site just outside of Victor, NY.

My husband and I were just there on Saturday, June 24th. The upper falls and the trail to them were closed due to the repair of the bridge that you see at 2:55 in the video. This place was magnificent and breath taking. The area is rich with history and if you visit, stop in at the visitor center. They have a video that they will play for you. It’s fascinating!

RIP the bridge shown at 2:40!

  11. Amanda Salmick on May 20, 2020 at 4:28 pm

Is it the Gorge Trail you take to get the view at 1:03? How many miles in is this? Beautiful!!

This is our second time for our family reunion in the near Finger Lakes area and decided to visit this beautiful park. We had planned to visit Niagara Falls but it’s too commercialize and our friend highly recommended Letchworth. It’s so breathtaking and wish I could return to see the autumn foliage. Amazing, indeed!

This was a very well done video that shows the popular tourist areas in the South end of the Park. I live less than 5 minutes away from Letchworth and I go there at less 3-5 times a week exploring the hidden areas of Letchworth. I grew up next to Letchworth and my Grandfather lived in the Park behind the trout Pond and worked for Mr. Letchworth as a young teenage boy. My connections to this place are strong and I love seeing videos like this one. I too have a youtube channel and I show many hidden areas of the park and share some history. Thanks for this beautiful look at my favorite place!

Letchworth State park is magnificent. I had the opportunity to visit in the winter when the fans were nearly frozen – so beautiful, full of birds too!

EDIT: Whoa the river was really dry the year these photos were taken
