Overnight Kayak and Camp on Texas Hill Country River!

Overnight Kayak and Camp on Texas Hill Country River!

This was a much needed overnight kayak and hammock camp on the Upper Guadalupe River in the Texas Hill Country! Social Distancing concerns due to Covid, combined with near-drought conditions in the Hill County throughout the spring, have kept us off the rivers for far too long. Although we still had relatively low flow (~70cfs at Comfort), we decided to paddle, float, drag or walk our way through the trip! It turned out to be a great trip, with just a few short sections where we had to walk or portage.

Mary and Kevin were outfitted with new Wilderness System Radar 115s. Colette was sporting a new Brooklyn Kayak Company boat, while Cady enjoyed her Bonafide Kayak. The rest of us were in our trusty economy Future Beach Kayaks that have served us well over the past few years!

Nice selection of Kayaks, I was thinking about adding a Bonafide SS127 to the fleet. How does it paddle?

Killed a goat????? What in the world?? What does that have to do kayaking? I thought only my trips were train wrecks. I’m feeling good about my trips. Nothing or nobody had to die!!!! Love your vids man. Just subscribed.

Your mermaids point is private property, stop stopping on property you don’t know who owns it and if you don’t have permission

Thanks for another great video. Just curious. What happens when you plan to stop and camp somewhere and there are people already there? If there is adequate space ask to join them or is protocol to just move on unless they suggest sharing the sandbar. With all those women, beer and gear you bring along probably get asked.

No rain?! We were supposed to make that same trip but canceled due to storms coming in. I’ll have to send this to my buddies that flaked out

This is my first time on your channel, however I can’t get past the first 1:05 when you mention "killing a goat"….why would you kill a goat near a river bed? Did the land owner know you killed one of his goats? I find this so peculiar to do on a river trip.

Wow such a well done video, Michael! The cinemetography and editing were top notch. Ok, this section of river is downright beautiful and I need to do it ASAP. Looks like you had a wonderful crew too! The more the merrier. I’m also glad to see the kayak leash methods in action! Keep up the great work my man!

  29. Sorrells Outdoors on September 6, 2021 at 5:16 pm

When you talk about the flow rate, where is that rate takin at? I guess what I’m asking is, how do I know when the river is flowing at a good rate for a kayak. Looking to do the same trip from Comfort to Sisterdale. Thanks
