Top 10 Biggest Airline Money Making Routes in the World

UK airline schedule company OAG, whose air schedule guide was originally called ‘Official Aviation Guide Of The Airways’ has published the top 10 airline routes by revenue. And one airline’s flying generated over a billion dollars last year on a single route: British Airways flying between New York JFK and London Heathrow.

In fact with 5 of the 8 highest-revenue routes for any single airline involving Heathrow it’s no wonder that:

London Heathrow is congested and a slot there has sold for as much as $75 million
British Airways wants to avoid competition (a third runway which would open up capacity) BA is able to get buy putting the former head of low cost carrier Vueling in charge and degrading the product They can offer a poor premium cabin product, with plenty of seats

United crushes San Francisco to the New York area, they’re flying between two of their hubs, while American generates an enormous amount of cash between New York JFK and Los Angeles. No doubt this is why American’s Senior Vice President for Los Angeles Suzanne Boda told me she wishes she had more than 10 first class seats on each flight to sell.

    3 questions:
    1. What is YYR? (Is that Toronto?)
    2. Will Brexit affect London’s stature as the #1 international airport in Europe?
    3. What about United’s flights SFO – HONOLULU? Wouldn’t that be in the Top 10?

As a Brit all I can say is that we are extremely lucky to have such a great airport. LHR is a gem.

The YT links in the description don’t work and I think I know why: it says
?edit inside so I come to a page I am simply not allowed onto.

nowadays cargo and business class are the big part earning money. economy class passengers have too many cheaper selection.so that is why those Singapore Hong kong,America Canada to London can earn alot, because business class sell better…..and those Germany America Japan to China also earn a lot from cargo.

    My route is usually DEL/VIDP – SVO/UEE with Aeroflot’s A330-3/B777-300ER, Flight Time – 6H 20M , Distance 4400 kms/2250nmi
    Revenue/Flight – Unknown

  8. Coleen West on November 1, 2019 at 3:54 pm

This is silly. Melbourne to Sydney is NOT a bigger route than LAX to NY. There is at least 20 times more people flying across from LA to NY than exist in all of Australia. No other airlines would even bother to fly a plane between any two cities in Australia and there are at least 40 that fly LAX to NY.

  9. Chris McMahon on November 1, 2019 at 3:54 pm

It would be more interesting to know which routes make the most revenue cumulatively with all airlines flying it.
Otherwise, this video was too much fluff and "borrowed" footage. 1/3 of it’s actual length would have been better.

    Why always fly to London

  14. backfromcuba on November 1, 2019 at 4:04 pm

i would share this, but it could have been a list, or 1 minute video!

  15. christopher hennessey on November 1, 2019 at 4:04 pm

They should paint the 787’s wings silver so it doesn’t look like an unpainted model plane with decals.

  16. Yun Song on November 1, 2019 at 4:07 pm

Could you replace Airport code to plain name? I can’t easily DEODE the airport code!

  17. yidingcao on November 1, 2019 at 4:11 pm

This video is pretty much of an irony considering how much money these airlines actually make. Cathy Pacific is in huge financial trouble these days if you have any idea of aviation market share in Asia.

  23. Tika Nguyen on November 1, 2019 at 4:17 pm

They need to put country to country or city to city and not the name of airport to airport ,because no one knows airport names

  24. dpm1982 on November 1, 2019 at 4:18 pm

YVR – YYZ surprised me, but AC has ~11 direct, daily non-stops. No matter the livery, the 787 always looks like it has eyeliner around the front windscreen! Great AC livery.

    Where is Air France?

  26. Vojtech Skala on November 1, 2019 at 4:18 pm

    Why is there singapore twice?

  27. John Iii on November 1, 2019 at 4:19 pm

The tile is misleading. Assuming the numbers are correct which is a big stretch this is revenue per route. Revenue per route Doesn’t say much about Actual margin and bottom line profit.

  28. BS Ooi on November 1, 2019 at 4:19 pm

See singapore airlines lhr-sin-syd routes are very profitable. If qantas wete to operate lhr-syd sector, can they undercut singapore airlines profit…

  29. Md Iskandar on November 1, 2019 at 4:20 pm

I’m proud of Singapore Airlines 🇸🇬

  30. Ariel Prado on November 1, 2019 at 4:21 pm

LHR is such a wonderful airport. Not only for the on land facilities but also for the number of airlines and shops to be found there. Bravo Brits!!!!!

  31. cyclonicleo on November 1, 2019 at 4:25 pm

Not surprised with SYD-MEL. ITs an 8-10 hour drive between the two cities and the highway linking them isn’t completely dual carriageway either. No wonder people would rather fly it!

  32. •ThapH 283 on November 1, 2019 at 4:27 pm

    How about HKG-TPE?

  33. Bushangels on November 1, 2019 at 4:27 pm

It’s essentially a spreadsheet. Making it into a 10 min video doesn’t provide more information. And you didn’t even list the cities and countries.

  34. iFlyTheWorld on November 1, 2019 at 4:27 pm

Why didn’t you show the aircraft that actually do the flying on the first two routes?

  35. rizwan p on November 1, 2019 at 4:28 pm

London to Barbados is 1 off the experience route too + also flights too old

  36. Gibranmr on November 1, 2019 at 4:28 pm

    How about CGK-SIN ???
    CGK=Jakarta

  37. m h on November 1, 2019 at 4:28 pm

  39. Bangla Quran on November 1, 2019 at 4:30 pm

    The best is Qatar airways

  40. EpicThe112 on November 1, 2019 at 4:31 pm

Drake video but what about British Airways London to Newark NJ since it would have been covered under New York under New York metro area

  41. nadav atar on November 1, 2019 at 4:34 pm

Maybe those routes generate high revenue, but you dont know for sure they are the most profitable, it depends on many factors. I think the most profitable routes are routes like NYC-BOS, LAX-SFO or SYD-MEL as presented in here.

  42. Andrew Church on November 1, 2019 at 4:34 pm

Total waste of time click bait. How about a text summary? No! Right planes shown for the routes? No! Stats details? No! Presentation most annoying ever encountered. Total fail!

  43. Ricardo sam on November 1, 2019 at 4:35 pm

    Yes yes london

  44. Rocky Dans on November 1, 2019 at 4:36 pm

Heathrow is the most successful privately run airport in the world, these facts and fugures show why….great video.

  45. Whit Siever on November 1, 2019 at 4:39 pm

Circled the globe (literally) last month
    In summary:
    IAD-LHR – 777 PACKED IN (United Airlines)
ARN-DOH – 787 half capacity, had entire row to myself
DOH-SIN – 787 half capacity, had entire row to myself
MNL-SIN – 777 1/4 capacity had row to myself (Why Singapore Airlines deemed this a 777 route and not a 737/A321 I do not understand)
SIN-LAX – 787 less than half full had entire 9 sat aisle to myself (United Airlines, completion of open jaw booking fly to Heathrow, return from Singapore)

  46. America Mike on November 1, 2019 at 4:39 pm

Airline routes? First 2 minutes about just airlines. Click bait lost me.

  47. Yuren Balboa on November 1, 2019 at 4:42 pm

I Luv This Video! One Thing , You Placed In Singapore Airlines Twice , Better Work On That

  48. Daniel the Baja on November 1, 2019 at 4:43 pm

Why does the thumbnail have a 777 with 787 wings?

  49. Nizam Masood on November 1, 2019 at 4:43 pm

Before Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha airports dominate the aviation world, a lot of European airlines flying to and from Australia usually make a stop in Singapore or Kuala Lumpur. I think the middle east airports have the chance to really steal traffic in the coming decades. Their location is just perfect. LHR – DXB = 7 hours. DXB – SIN : 7 hours. They also serve not only as the new gateways to Asia, but also the gateway to Africa. And since Doha launched a flight to Auckland, I just think they are simply able to beat Changi at some point.

Soon, the new Istanbul Airport will be launched. 😓 I hope Singapore Changi will always shine. Always.

  50. bluehorseshoe444 on November 1, 2019 at 4:44 pm

These are revenue figures which doesn’t tell us how much money the airlines actually make on these routes… title’s a little misleading.
